OSTEOPATÍA EN MARBELLA
THE ORIGIN OF OSTEOPATHY
The American doctor Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917) was the creator of osteopathy, he developed a set of manipulation techniques based on exhaustive studies of the anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of human joints, which he called osteopathy. These techniques form the basis of the techniques used today.
WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
Osteopathy is a manual, natural and holistic therapy that aims to rebalance the bone, musculoskeletal and visceral structure. It takes a holistic approach to the patient and considers that any alteration of the body structure has repercussions on the function of these structures giving rise to symptoms (pain, lack of movement...).
WHO IS OSTEOPATHY FOR?
An osteopath can perform specific treatments for people of any age according to their needs.
Osteopathy currently treats various types of pathologies:
- Osteoarticular pathology (structural osteopathy).
- Functional visceral pathology (visceral osteopathy).
- Functional and psychosomatic brain pathology (cranial osteopathy).
WHAT DOES OSTEOPATHY INVOLVE?
The osteopathy sessions are individual. Each session consists of a first exploration phase in which the damaged structure is identified by hand. This phase includes a complete examination: anamnesis, inspection of posture, palpation of tissues and joints, active and passive mobilisation tests, orthopaedic and/or neurological tests. Radiological and laboratory tests provided by the patient are also studied, and the osteopathic examination reveals alterations of the locomotor apparatus, the skull and the visceral system. This is followed by a second, more therapeutic phase in which manual techniques are applied according to the osteopathic diagnosis. Structural or functional osteopathic techniques are used as well as specific techniques (joint, ligament, tendon, muscle, visceral or cranial suture).
